With increase in the requirements of data analysis and pervasive use of real world data, the challenge to deal with uncertainties and imprecision has also scaled up. Introduced by L. Zadeh, the Fuzzy sets, and proposed by Z. Pawlak, the Rough sets have emerged as popular tools for computing with words, handling imprecision and uncertainties. The theory of fuzzy logic is based on the notion of relative graded membership, as inspired by the processes of human perception and cognition. Fuzzy logic is extremely useful in many areas for research and development including engineering, mathematics, software development, and natural and social sciences. New computing methods based on fuzzy logic can be used in the development of intelligent systems for decision making, identification, pattern recognition, optimization, and control. Application of Rough Sets have had more humble innings. The rough set theory takes into consideration the indiscernibility between objects. The theory of rough sets is motivated by practical needs to interpret, characterize, represent, and process indiscernibility of individuals. Rough set theory provides a systematic method for representing and processing vague concepts caused by indiscernibility in situations with incomplete information or a lack of knowledge. Hybridization of Fuzzy and Rough sets is also found to be fruitful. The present workshop will focus on fundamentals of the topic, tutorials and a few applications associated with lab sessions provided by experts actively working in this field.
The invited lectures and tutorials will cover topics on Basic foundations of Fuzzy sets and Rough Sets, its applications in Data and Knowledge Processing, and hybrid approaches to deal with issues in Approximate reasoning, Fuzzy Set Theory and application, Machine learning, Granular Computing, Pattern Recognition and Image processing, Geo-spatial data Mining, Big Data Analytics, etc.
With the inputs from the sessions and interactions with the resource persons the participants are expected to take up a problem during the workshop and work on it. A poster session will be organized for the participants to present their work.
Poster Session is scheduled at 11:00-11:45 am on September 9, 2016. Participants are encouraged to present an "idea/concept" based poster. Those willing to participate in the poster session must inform on September 5, 2016 at the time of registration.
