Why Should the Industry Recruit Students of CITD?
Selection procedure: The selection procedure to the centre guarantees a flow of one of the best students of the country. The students are tested on their knowledge of basic economic theory, mathematics, statistics and their understanding of the various issues in the world economy. The fact that only 2% of the students applying are finally selected underlines the quality of students selected.
Modes of evaluation: The courses offered involve continuous and rigorous evaluation of students which allows the student to imbibe the questioning spirit and develop their analytical skills. The weekly tutorials, assignments, term papers and presentations that the students are required to do, makes the students more articulate in thought and speech, enhances their understanding of the subject matter and encourages teamwork resulting in exchange of ideas and their constructive criticism. The evaluation procedure exposes students to continue in stress thereby increasing their capacity to deliver the best under greatest pressure.
Courses: The courses offered are greatly varied which exposes the students to a wide range of issues and research work that are being carried out.
Faculty: One of the key features of this programme has been its faculty members who are renowned nationally and internationally. At various points they have been involved with national policy making and active research.

Past Placement :
The research organisation and the corporates that have recruited students of this centre within a span of just 10 years guages the capabilities of the students to work with best and deliver the best. In the past various research institutes and corporates like NCAER, TERI, RGF, GE Caps, ICICI have recruited the students.
Placement Procedure :
The reputation of any institution rests on its ability to successfully place its students in organizations which are the hubs of contemporary economic activity. With this aim, the placement cell at JNU provides an invaluable opportunity for its students to integrate relevant practical work with academic study.
The placement procedure would be as follows:
Companies interested in recruitment from CITD, JNU are welcome to give pre placement talks. These talks will be arranged in JNU by CITD placement co-coordinators. The talks can be held anytime during the tentative placement season - December to February. Likewise placement co-coordinators from CITD can give presentations to the companies at their premises.
In the past, recruiting companies have followed two-pronged procedure for recruitment-viz written test and interview. So the companies interested in recruitment are requested to intimate the placement co-coordinators-----the procedure to be adopted for recruitment.
Summer Internship :
The summer internship programme aims to widen the students' perspective by providing an exposure to real life organization and environmental situations. This programme is the most effective aid in enabling the students to relate economic theory to practice.
The selection for internship is based on applications made by students against specific organizational requirements. The students are placed in various research institutes, chambers of commerce, consultancy firms by the department to gain practical experience in statistical tools that are used in the industry.
Typically projects are interdisciplinary and involve assigning independent responsibility to the summer interns under the guidance of a senior economist.
The organization, in turn, benefits from the objective and unbiased perspective the student provides based on concepts and skills imbibed in the 1st year of the M.A. programme. The summer interns also serve as unofficial spokes person of the organization and help in image building on campus.
