About NEISP : North East India Studies Programme (NEISP) was set up to promote teaching and research on North East India on an interdisciplinary framework. The main thrust of NEISP is to undertake teaching and critical research, and build up a body of scholarly works on the region and its neighboring areas. Apart from offering BA Optional and MA Optional courses, NEISP offers MPhil/PhD and Direct PhD programme(s).
Brief Biography of late Dr. Jayashree Roy : Dr. Jayashree Roy was a senior faculty member of the National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration, New Delhi. She received her education in India and universities abroad. She was a resource person for different organisations, such as USEFI, UNESCO, Commonwealth Secretariat, NCERT, MHRD, NMML and state governments. North East India remained an important area of research interest for her.
About the Speaker : Rana P. Behal taught History at Deshbandhu College, University of Delhi. He has also held teaching assignments at Cornell University, Syracuse University and Oberlin College, USA. He has been a fellow at Nehru Memorial Museum and Library, New Delhi; Centre of South Asian Studies, Cambridge University; Humboldt University, Berlin and Centre for Development Studies, Free University, Berlin. He is also the author of, One Hundred Years of Servitude: Political Economy of Tea Plantations in Colonial Assam (2014).
