Preserving Linguistic Diversity: The Role of Technology in Northeast Indian Languages
Dr. Sahiinii Veikho
Assistant Professor (Linguistics Unit), Department of
Humanities and Social Sciences, IIT Delhi
Abstract: In this talk, I will explore the rich linguistic diversity of Northeast India, a region known for its vast array of languages, each with its unique cultural and historical significance. I will discuss what this diversity reveals about the region’s complex socio-cultural fabric and why it is crucial to preserve these languages. As many of these languages face the threat of extinction, the need to leverage technology for their study and preservation becomes increasingly urgent. I will highlight the role that technological advancements can play in documenting, analyzing, and revitalizing these languages, ensuring they are safeguarded for future generations.
