Brief Profile of the Speaker: With over 25 years of experience, Dr. Anil Kumar Roy is a senior Associate Professor at CEPT University, Ahmedabad. He holds a PhD in Urban Geography from JNU, New Delhi, and studied Urban and Regional Planning at CEPT University. Dr Roy was awarded a Canadian Studies Doctoral Fellowship for his PhD and was affiliated with Dalhousie University, Halifax, Canada, in 2002. He had also worked with national and international institutions such as the UNESCO Office in New Delhi and PRIA and CSE, New Delhi, before joining CEPT University in 2009. He has worked on various advisory projects, such as the preparation of master/development and regional and sub-regional plans, benchmarking of industrial estates, and assessment of climate change impacts on drought-affected areas and coastal communities for urban local bodies, state and national governments. His research papers have been published in national and international journals. Dr Roy has published two books and is working on another on planning education in the global south. His research interests include urbanization and public health, including water, sanitation and hygiene in the Global South, urban environment and climate change, urbanization and its linkages with urban poverty and informalities.
