Venue: Seminar Room, First Floor, School of Physical Sciences (SPS), JNU
Abstract: We will discuss general construction of a certain kind of mock theta functions, more precisely a construction that generalizes results obtained by Zwegers in his PhD thesis. After a brief discussion of their relevance in the context of physics and mathematics, we will develop a general procedure to describe them for a lattice of indefinite signature (r,n-r). We will focus on the case r=2 to understand the crucial features of this general construction and lay out a prescription of extending it to r>2 cases. The discussion will be based on joint works with Alexandrov, Manschot and Pioline. Subsequent works appeared where Kudla developed a geometric picture based on the so-called Kudla-Millson theta forms. We will touch upon the connections with our construction. If time permits, we will also briefly discuss another geometric construction developed by Westerholt-Raum, shortly following our work.

Emergent Phase Space Description of Unitary Matrix Model
Suvankar Dutta

Date: April 7, 2017 (Friday)
Time: 16:00 hrs (4:00 PM)
Venue: Seminar Room, First Floor, School of Physical Sciences (SPS), JNU
Abstract: In this talk we shall first discuss a phase space description of a generic unitary matrix model and see how different phases of the theory can be characterised in terms of different (two dimensional) droplets in phase space. This droplet picture has a very strong similarity with phase space distribution for Thomas-Fermi model. It is therefore interesting to see if there exists an underlying quantum mechanical understanding of different large N phases of a unitary matrix model.
