Title : : Diophantine exponents for group actions and continued fractions

Abstract : We shall discuss how one can estimate values of various Diophantine exponents for standard linear actions of some 2x2 matrix groups provided we have continued fraction algorithms whose denominator sizes rise exponentially. Thereafter, we illustrate this with few cases which we have been able to resolve satisfactorily. This builds upon previous works of Bugeaud, Dani, Laurent and Nogueira, among many others. The talk will be partly based on joint work with Yann Bugeaud and Zhenliang Zhang.
