Cordially invites you to a talk on
Modelling Vegetation Dynamics
Dr. Viktar Kireyeu, PhD (Environmental Sciences and Policy)
Postdoctoral Researcher, Department of Environmental Security and Sustainable Development of Regions, Institute of Earth Sciences,
Saint Petersburg State University.
1st May 2019 (Wednesday) 3pm-5:30pm
Amrita Devi Bishnoi Seminar Hall, SES.
Abstract: The talk will review existing approaches to dynamic ecosystem modelling, available sources of scenario data, their quality and reliability. We will have a short modelling exercise to study potential future changes in vegetation patterns and ecosystem functioning within different environmental settings by performing a set of simulations with LPJ-GUESS model. Based on simulated results, we will discuss climate change effects on land cover, independent and combined effects of rising temperature and atmospheric CO2 concentrations on ecosystems, potential sources of uncertainties, the effects of fire management, suitable adaptation measures, and implications for land use decision-making and biodiversity governance.
The talk will be followed by a hands-on training workshop
Students should come with their laptop (if sharing should sit together). All can download the software from here: http://web.nateko.lu.se/lpj-guess/education/guessedu.zip Please contact Prof. P K Joshi (pkjoshi@mail.jnu.ac.in ) for further details.
