Socio-legal Structure Of the Indian Capitalist Class
Date: 24th October 2019
Venue: Room 401, (SSS 1 Building, JNU)
Time: 3 pm
Abstract: This lecture proposes to demonstrate the link between the social structure and the legal norms and codes governing the Indian capitalist class. In doing so, it brings out the importance of the Hindu Undivided family and its embedded construction in religion, caste and patriarchy. It will demonstrate that this structure was historically put in place in the 1950s and has had a seamless existence since then up until the contemporary period despite the change in the state’s policy paradigm from dirigisme to neoliberalism.
