YOUNG RESEARCH SCHOLARS' WORKSHOP ON
THE EU INTEGRATION EXPERIENCES: MAASTRICHT AND AFTER
12th April 2017
About the Workshop
This year marked 25 years since the signing of the Maastricht Treaty. Since then, the European Union has witnessed successes and challenges to its integration project. Today the EU represents a union of 28 members that promotes free movement of goods, services, and people; democratic norms; social, economic, and fiscal stability; and international peace and security. While the EU has been successful in its aim, yet challenges to its integration project are numerous. The global economic crisis of 2008 that spiraled into a sovereign debt crisis in Greece, Italy, Spain and Portugal was followed by a political crisis in Ukraine in 2014, the refugee crisis in 2015, and finally, the British referendum to withdraw its membership are few of the challenges that the EU is facing.
In the context of these successes and challenges, the Centre of European Studies and Europe Area Studies Programme , SIS, JNU are organising a one-day workshop on the theme "The EU Integration Experiences: Maastricht and After" on 12th April 2017 to provide students with an opportunity to discuss on the experiences of the EU integration since 1992.The workshop will include lectures and presentations.
