Title: Emerging roles of molecular modelling in decoding biological regulation: examples from the p53 pathway
Speaker : Chandra Verma
Head, Biomolecular Design Group, Bioinformatics Institute, Singapore
Abstract: Atomistic insights into biomolecular mechanisms have been given a significant boost with advances in modelling technologies - which include better representations and faster computers. These models now regularly complement biochemical and biological observations by providing insights and testable hypotheses. We will take the example of the p53 pathway to illustrate some developments that have resulted in new windows of interpretation and possible futures.
Brief bio: Dr. Chandra Verma did his undergrad studies at IIT Kanpur followed by PhD at the Univ of York, UK. He continued to work at the York as a Research Fellow in the Structural Biology Lab. In 2003 Dr. Verma joined Bioinformatics Institute A*STAR, Singapore to start a group on biomolecular design. His lab investigates biomolecular mechanisms, designs molecules and peptides as reagents and as therapy, working with academics, clinicians, industry. The group has several patents resulting in a spinoff ‘Sinopsee Therapeutics’.
